Hakkında
Dr. Guanxi Yan, born in 1989 in Huludao, Liaoning Province, China, is an outstanding young scholar in the field of civil and geotechnical engineering. He obtained his bachelor's degree in civil engineering (underground engineering) from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) and later pursued his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Queensland, Australia, where he successfully completed his Ph.D. in civil engineering (geotechnical engineering) in 2024. Currently, Dr. Yan is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Queensland, working under the supervision of Dr. Thierry Bore and Prof. Alexander Scheuermann. His research focuses on geotechnical engineering experiments, geophysical measurement methods for tailings dam materials, and rainfall-induced slope stability assessment for industiral and governmental partners.
Dr. Yan’s research mainly focuses on unsaturated soil mechanics, groundwater dynamics, and multiphase flow in porous media. During his Ph.D., he conducted in-depth investigations into the dynamic behavior of multiphase flow in unsaturated soils through theoretical analysis, experimental research, and numerical simulation. He made significant breakthroughs, particularly in the soil water retention curve and transient flow. He developed a dynamic unsaturated soil seepage experimental platform and integrated the application of Spatial Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) and tensiometer techniques to monitor the dynamics of moisture and matric suction in unsaturated soils. Additionally, he used the Shan-Chen Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) simulations to validate the dynamic changes in soil moisture and suction. This research has significantly contributed to improving soil water retention models and provided strong support for predictive models in groundwater dynamics and vadose zone mechanics.
Dr. Yan has made considerable academic achievements, having published more than 42 academic papers in internationally renowned journals and conferences. Of these, 26 have been indexed by SCIE, with 2 indexed by ESCI. His publications include leading first-author and corresponding-author papers in top journals such as Journal of Hydrology, Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Acta Geotechnica, Geotechnical Testing Journal, and Geotechnique Letter. His research covers a wide range of topics, including unsaturated soil seepage, dynamic two-phase flow, bubble formation in porous media, and geophysical measurement methods for geotechnical bodies, earning him widespread recognition in the international academic community.
In addition to his research achievements, Dr. Yan actively participates in international academic exchanges. He has been invited to several prestigious international conferences and has presented papers and delivered keynote speeches at events such as the 6th and 7th International Conferences on Unsaturated Soils (UNSAT 2014 and UNSAT 2018) and the 12th and 14th International Conferences on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances (ISEMA 2016 and ISEMA 2023). Furthermore, he has served as a reviewer for 48 international journals, completing over 257 manuscript reviews, further demonstrating his influence in the academic field.
