Padmanabhan Balasubramanian is a Senior Research Fellow in the College of Computing and Data Science (formerly, School of Computer Science and Engineering) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Madras, India; Master’s degree in VLSI System from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India; and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK. His Ph.D. research was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK, and the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester, UK. His postdoctoral research has been funded by the EPSRC, UK; the Ministry of Defense, Singapore; and the Ministry of Education, Singapore. He contributed to the conceptualization and preparation of two successful research project proposals awarded by the Ministry of Education, Singapore which are worth about SGD 815,000. He led both these projects through to completion.
Balasubramanian has about 10 years of postdoctoral research experience at universities in the UK and Singapore and about 7 years of teaching experience at higher education institutions in India. He has published over 130 research papers predominantly as the lead author in international journals and conferences, including a few invited journal and conference papers. He served on the technical program, steering, and advisory committees of 75 international conferences. He also served as a reviewer for 50 international journals, including the IEEE, IET, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, etc., 32 international conferences, and 2 Elsevier book proposals. He is a Topical Advisory Panel Member of the Journal of Low Power Electronics and Applications and an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Reconfigurable and Embedded Systems. He has organized 5 special issues in Electronics as Guest Editor, 4 of which have been completed and 1 is ongoing. He was commended and awarded a Certificate for Outstanding Contribution to Reviewing by Microelectronics Reliability (Elsevier) in 2016; Computers and Electrical Engineering (Elsevier) in 2017 and 2018; and Integration, the VLSI Journal (Elsevier) in 2018. His research interests include approximate computing, machine learning, asynchronous circuits, fault-tolerant design, digital integrated circuits, logic synthesis, and computer arithmetic.
